About this practice set

This set practises beginner reading in Korean: working out the topic of two short sentences, filling a blank with the right particle or verb, reading short notices, a text message and an advertisement, checking which sentence matches a text, putting events in order and finding the main idea of a short paragraph.

It is written for TOPIK I learners at about levels 1 and 2 who can read Hangul and know common everyday words. Two pairs of questions share one passage, so you also practise answering more than one question from the same text. Every answer comes with an English explanation that quotes the Korean words that matter and shows why the most tempting wrong option does not fit.

This is a 20 question practice set, not an official full-length mock exam. Its mix and order of question types are practice choices and are not a statement of the official TOPIK I structure.

What you will practise

  • Name the topic of two short sentences from key nouns such as family, season and price words.
  • Choose the right particle or verb for a blank, for example 에서 for the place of an action and 우산을 쓰다 for using an umbrella.
  • Find times, days, places and rules in short notices, messages and advertisements.
  • Put simple events in order using cause and time words such as 그래서 and 먼저.
  • Tell the main idea of a short paragraph apart from its details.
